As Disney says “Travel Around the Globe, Under the Sea, into Outer Space… and Beyond!”
Set your imagination free and enjoy all the magic that Disney has to offer at Epcot, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. The city that Walt Disney had in his mind to be the model community which would have been home to twenty thousand residents and a test bed for city planning as well as organization. The plan was to build it in the shape of a circle with businesses and commercial areas at its center with community buildings, schools, and recreational complexes around it while residential neighborhoods would line the perimeter. His idea then carried over to Disney Imagineers to create Epcot the Theme Park. Some Imagineers wanted it to represent the cutting edge of technology, while others wanted it to showcase international cultures and customs. At one point, a model of the futuristic park was pushed together against a model of a World’s Fair international theme, and the two were combined.
As part of the opening-day ceremony, performers were invited and they performed “We’ve Just Begun to Dream”. The Sherman Brothers also wrote a song especially for the occasion entitled “The World Showcase March”. During the finale, doves and balloons were released. Performing groups representing countries from all over the world performed in the World Showcase. Water was gathered from major rivers across the globe and emptied into the park’s fountain of nations ceremonial containers to mark the opening and located at the front of the park is a plaque bearing Walker’s opening-day dedication.

It was announced at the Destination D fan event in November 2016 that Epcot would get a major transformation that would help transition the park into being “more Disney, timeless, relevant, family-friendly” while keeping the original vision alive. Then in July at the D23 Expo 2017 in Anaheim, The Walt Disney Company announced that Epcot would undergo a multi-year, redesign and expansion plan that would introduce Guardians of the Galaxy and Ratatouille attractions to Future World and World Showcase, as well as maintaining the original vision and spirit for the park.
During the 35th Anniversary Celebration at Epcot this year you will be able to enjoy the 22nd Annual International Food & Wine Festival that will take place from August 31st – November 13th 2017. There will be 35 unique food and wine marketplaces celebrating the 35 years of Epcot on Sunday October 1st 2017.
Also to celebrate the “Begin to Dream” Anniversary new retro merchandise has been introduced.
We are all really excited to celebrate this special anniversary of one of our favorite Disney parks, so much so that one of our close friends and very gifted piano players Gijs Van Winkelhof put together a beautiful Epcot Piano Medley to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of this incredible park. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do and please be sure to subscribe to his YouTube channel and see more of the other Disney melody’s and more that he has on his channel. You can also join his Facebook group where he keeps in touch with all his fans and followers.
