I don’t normally watch TV, as some of you can relate, there’s just never enough time in the day to fit it in. But from time to time, I do have a ‘me day’ and I catch up with some shows, and one of the Talk Shows I truly enjoy watching is The Steve Harvey Show, he’s just a down to earth, keeping it real kind of guy and on today’s show he happened to be talking about the Disney Dreamers Academy. Now I’m BIG when it comes to all things Disney, but I will be honest and tell you that I was not aware of this and it floored me… “Where was this when I was growing up and in High School, I said to myself?” It’s AWESOME! So I decided to really look into it so that I can share it with all of you.. Who knows, maybe there are some of you out there that like me, have never heard of this before either and perhaps you have High School students that you would like for them to take part in the Disney Dreamers Academy.
The Disney Dreamers Academy is a unique opportunity that Walt Disney World created in partnership with Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine to help inspire, motivate and empower High School students as they begin their journey to a future full of promise and endless possibilities and make their career dreams come true. Introduced in 2008 already 600 High School Alumnae have emerged with a new perspective on life and their chosen career paths. It’s a powerful four-day program that takes place in what many have called the world’s most creative classroom, the Walt Disney World Resort and includes interactive career workshops, motivational talks, and networking opportunities with Disney cast members, celebrities, industry and community leaders showcasing a myriad of different career disciplines. Usually scheduled in early Spring, participants and a parent or guardian receive an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. There they will experience both on stage and behind the scenes how the parks become vibrant ‘classrooms’ leading to career discoveries, the pursuit of dreams and fun memories to cherish for a lifetime. Each day’s theme gives you a taste of the magic and offers a new journey for the kids and gets them to Dream Big and to make those Dreams come True…
