Hong Kong Disneyland is located in Penny’s Bay, Lantau Island Hong Kong and it’s owned and managed by Hong Kong International Theme Parks. It opened it’s doors on September 12th, 2005 consisting of seven themed areas; Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, and Toy Story Land. Hong Kong Disneyland cast members speak 3 languages; Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. Guide maps are printed in traditional and simplified Chinese as well as English, French, and Japanese. Hong Kong Disneyland had the shortest construction period amongst all the Disneyland-style theme parks taking just 2 years from the time they broke ground on January 12th 2003 till September 12th 2005 when they opened to the public at 1:00PM local time. On January 12th 2003, more than 400 guests celebrated the groundbreaking of Hong Kong Disneyland after the finishing of land reclamation in Penny’s Bay. On September 23rd 2004, a special “castle topping ceremony” was held in the park to commemorate the placing of the tallest turret on “Sleeping Beauty Castle” and from there, the dream became a reality when they finally opened the gates to the public on September 12th, 2005 and the rest of coarse is Disney Magic!
The park is divided into seven themed lands and well-concealed backstage areas. On entering a land, the guest is completely immersed in a themed environment and is unable to see or hear any other realm. The idea behind this was to develop theatrical “stages” with seamless passages from one land to the next. That magic that is Disney! 😉
All around the park there are ‘Hidden Mickeys’ in the design of attractions and environmental decor. Also there is an elevated berm that supports a narrow gauge railroad that circumnavigates throughout the park. Click here and you can see a map of the park! Hong Kong Disneyland really is the vacation destination for the Disney lover at heart. Park hours and events may vary. While visiting the park you might want to pick up a ‘times guide’ at Guest Relations for more information on the events going on that day! You can also see a Calendar of events on the HKDL website to plan ahead your vacation. Check out the video below for a look at what awaits you on your Magical Vacation to Hong Kong Disneyland. ºoº
